Covid-19: Nationwide League One to resume soon in Nigeria

As the football season resume in Europe and other parts of the world after indefinite postponment due to spread of Corona virus, Nigerian football fans have been assured of some football action soon.

The German Bundesliga is the first of the top 5 European leagues to restart football with the Burundi league, first in Africa.

Football action has been suspended in the country indefinitely as well but Chief Operating Officer of the Nationwide League One, Olushola Ogunnowo has confirmed that the league will played despite the continuous spread of the pandemic.

According to him, “The League will surely be played this year, NLO will go on this year. There are many format to play the League but set aim might not be met. Certainly, we will achieve 80% of why the league is set up if will play it this year,” the astute football administrator told FUBF.”

“Our strategy is very simple we will be looking at doing a zonal league for Division One, Division Two and Division Three because the Nigeria Football Federation has give us a standing instruction that once the league resume it must end in 8 weeks.” He added.

He continued saying
“We’ve already set out our project & plan is in place, the board has met and a decision has been taken & forwarded to NFF. We’re only waiting for the Nigerian Government to give us go ahead to start. The clubs will be given minimum of 3 to 4 weeks to prepare for the main event.”

Earlier this week, the NFF during an virtual executive meeting had ordered its football committee to meet with different heads of football league to fashion out how to restart football amidst the pandemic.
