COVID-19: Badminton World Federation postpones Africa’s biggest International Classics Championship

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has taken a decision on the Lagos International Badminton Classics, which is believed to be Africa’s biggest International badminton championship.

This decision was made after series of communication with the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), the Badminton Confederation Africa (BCA) and the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Sports Commission with the classics initially billed to take place from the 1st – 4th July 2020.

The statement released by Francis Orbih, Esq.
President, Badminton Federation of Nigeria. revealed that, “after due consultations and putting into consideration the global pandemic, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) ravaging the world, it has been agreed and decided that the championship be postponed”

“Much as we are saddened by the postponement, we are in total agreement with the BWF that the general well-being of the players, officials and spectators comes first and is of paramount importance. As we pray for an early end to the corona virus scourge, we appeal to all and sundry to keep calm, adhere to laid down advisories and generally stay safe”.
