Copa Lagos Gains International Nomination

In spite of a confirmation that this year’s edition will not hold, the annual beach soccer competition in Nigeria’s commercial, Copa Lagos, has gained high-level international recognition.

Sports247.ng can report that the major leverage for Copa Lagos comes in the form of the competition’s nomination among the top three beach soccer events globally.

With the nomination, Copa Lagos is now rated high alongside Euro Beach Soccer League in Nazare, Portugal, which won the award, and Euro Beach Soccer League Super Final in Alghero, Italy.

The award organizers, Beach Soccer World Wide disclosed this at an event in Dubai on the 10th of November.

Throwing light on the development, the managing director of Copa Lagos organisers, Kinetic Sports, Samson Adamu was full of gratitude and pride for this commendable accomplishment.

He also took time to explain why the 2018 edition of the annual COPA Lagos beach soccer tournament would not hold as anticipated.

Adamu stated that, giving the close proximity between the proposed date for this year’s edition and the kick-off of Confederation of African Football (CAF) Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations taking place in Egypt from 8 to 14 December, they decided not to host Copa Lagos this year.

Adamu apologized for any inconvenience the cancellation may cause. and stated further that their goal remains placing Nigeria on the map for global tourism using beach culture and lifestyle.

He added: “The Nigerian National team (the Sand Eagles) is an active participant at the CAF Beach Soccer event and so is the international beach soccer community.

“This soccer event in Egypt serves as the African qualifiers to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

“Over the last 7 years, COPA Lagos has grown from strength to strength and today, it’s a formidable sporting event.

“We promise to use this time to restructure the tournament into a bigger and much more improved experience for Lagosians and lovers of Beach soccer all over the world.”
