‘Contract Extension Shows Nigeria Believes In Chelle’ — Sam Sodje Welcomes NFF Decision

Sodje believes the extension provides the stability needed for Chelle and his technical crew to continue implementing their philosophy while building a competitive squad for future tournaments.

“The contract extension shows Nigeria believes in Eric Chelle and the direction the team is heading. Stability is important if you want long-term success,” Sodje said.

The former defender explained that giving the coach more time will encourage greater commitment from both the technical crew and the players as they work towards achieving the country’s football objectives.

He also backed the proposal for Chelle to oversee the U-23 national team, insisting it would strengthen the pathway from the youth teams to the Super Eagles.

“Having the same coach oversee the transition can help young players adapt more easily to the senior national team because they’ll already understand the philosophy and expectations,” he added.

Sodje stressed that continuity has often been lacking in Nigerian football and urged the football authorities to remain patient as Chelle continues rebuilding the national team.

According to him, sustained support and a clear long-term vision will give the Super Eagles the best chance of competing successfully at future Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup tournaments.
