Commencement Of Nigerian Football League Excites US Based Coach

Former Coach of Messiah Football Club of Lagos, Anthony Ushurhe has expressed delight that the much-awaited Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL kicks off today across centres after the nine-month break.

The Federal Government stopped NPFL early this year following the outbreak of a deadly disease, COVID-19 that threatened the existence of humanity globally.

The Nigerian-born coach who is based in American in a statement said he is happy that the organizers and other stakeholders have resolved to commence the league today which would help Nigerian clubs to perform well in the continental championships.

He said the commencement of NPFL is a sign that the country football league is fully back and urged the organizers and football fans to continue observing the covid-19 public safety protocols.

“Let me use this medium to congratulate Nigerian football fans and another football family on the commencement of NPFL this evening. We Nigerian football coaches and football enthusiasts in America are worried over the delay of the league but when we heard recently that the league would kick off on 27 December, we are relieved and happy. I wish all the teams involved the best of luck in their outings,” he said.

Commenting on the performances of Enyimba FC and Rivers United in their continental outings last Wednesday, the Delta born coach said Enyimba 0-3 lost to Sudanese club was as a result of the delay of the league but commended Rivers United for beating South African club 2-0 in their away match despite the challenges faced before travelling to South Africa.

Ushurhe who is currently handling the U-16 Arsenal football team that are playing in the Junior Premier League in the USA said Enyimba can beat Sudanese club in the second leg if all hands are on deck.

Ushurhe who doubles as a football agent said Enyimba needs to double their effort and attack their opponents from the blast of the whistle so as to cancel the deficit conceded in the first leg.
