The coach of long-jump star Ese Brume has revealed the toll her accident last year has taken, both physically and mentally, after she failed to qualify from the World Athletics Championships, along with debutant Prestina Ochonogor. The recovery, he said, has been gradual and required constant resilience.
“Each day is its own battle,” he remarked. “Muscles stiff, body fatigued—but more than anything, patience and belief are needed.” He added that public encouragement has meant a great deal to Ese Brume: messages of support have helped her stay motivated despite setbacks.

The coach also admitted that the competition environment can be unforgiving: “The world doesn’t wait. If you aren’t fit, sharp, you’re left behind. But challenges like this shape character.”
While Ese Brume is not yet at her absolute peak, incremental improvements in training metrics and rehabilitation have given the team reason for hope. Her take-off speed is back to near-normal; her landing strength still building.
He stressed that blocking out negativity has been a key strategy. “There will always be critics. We have chosen instead to focus on what we control—training, recovery, mental readiness.”
