Coach Godwin Gibson Reflects on Dino SC’s Jagaban Cup Triumph, Player Development

Coach Godwin Gibson of Dino Sporting Club shared his insights on the team’s victorious third-place finish in the Jagaban Cup, emphasizing the ups and downs encountered during the final match and the significance of player development in such competitions.

Speaking to Sports 247 in an interview, Gibson expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, despite initially conceding two goals in the final match against Charlesann FC.

“We started the game very well. The boys were trying to play to instructions, not until the second half. You know, there was a momentary loss of concentration that resulted in two goals that we conceded,” he stated, highlighting the team’s resilience in equalizing and ultimately winning in the penalty shootout.

Reflecting on the organization and standard of the tournament, Gibson commended the improved quality of teams and organization compared to previous editions.

“The level of the teams that are participating were very good standard teams. Last year we were here, it was not like this, but this one.

It is a better organization than last year,” he remarked, acknowledging the positive developments in the tournament.

Addressing concerns about player development and scouting, Gibson emphasized the importance of players showcasing their abilities to attract attention from scouts.

“We urge players to try to bring out what they have. Every player has an asset… If you can see in top-flight football, where mostly black men play, you can see maybe a central striker, a central defender, or a defensive midfielder.

They always give big players from a position that they will work like horses,” he explained, underscoring the need for players to exhibit their physical prowess and aggression to stand out to scouts.

Coach Gibson stressed the significance of players understanding and embodying the desired traits sought by scouts, encouraging them to unleash their potential and seize opportunities for growth and exposure.
