Coach Chijioke Osuagwu Targets Abia State FA Cup Glory With Ahudiya Nnem FC

Following his achievements with the club last year, the former head coach at Heartland of Owerri, Abia Warriors of Umuahia and Bussdor of Umuku, said he is now seeking greater height with ‘The Millionaires.’

Coach Chijioke, who earlier handled four Lagos-based teams – Frankelson United, Flaming Flamingoes, Stationery Stores and AS Racines – before moving to the South-East, is happy with what he has achieved in Abiriba, aka ‘Small London.’

The former assistant coach at Enyimba of Aba added that he wants his players to excel in the third-tier Nationwide League One (NLO) and gain promotion to the lower-cadre Nigerian National League by not only winning their home matches at Ahudiya Nnem Stadium in Abiriba, but also doing well in away games.

He thanked the club’s president, Dr. Robert Onyeani, and chairman, Mark Onuowu Onyeani, for ensuring that he and the players do not lack anything, which has boosted his efforts in raising a strong team for their forthcoming targets.

Osuagwu recounted, “I was able to build a strong squad after only two months that we first competed in the NLO1 and, out of 12 clubs, we ended in sixth position.

“This year, I want to help the team to retain Abia State Presidential Cup, ahead of which I have already started preparing the team.

“I am also targeting how to promote the team this season from NLO1 to NNL. In fact, it will be possible; because the owners are doing their best to fund the team to greater height.”

The former coach of National Grassroots Dream Team in Lagos and Diamond Football Academy of Umuahia, also took some time out to speak on his love for youth development, as he charged everyone across the country to lend more support to grooming of talents.

Coach Chijioke, who is fondly called ‘Ogburonu’ by his admirers, posited: “My advice is that youth development is a task that has to be achieved through all Nigerians, not only the NFF.

“All companies, agencies, top personalities and NGOs should invest in things that will develop talented youths from the grassroots.”
