Coach Ayodeji Calls For Mandatory Medical Tests For Coaches, Backroom Staff In Nigerian Football Leagues

Former Sunshine Stars, Rising Stars FC, Adamimogo FC and Akure City FC Head Coach- Adepoju Banjo Ayodeji, has urged the governing bodies of football leagues in Nigeria to make medical tests for coaches a mandatory part of the registration process for all league teams across the country.

This call comes in the wake of the sudden passing of Shooting Stars coach, Akin Olowookere, who collapsed and died in the early hours of Monday, 11th August 2025.

Coach Adepoju, who also serves as the Secretary of the Ondo State Football Coaches Association, emphasized that such medical examinations would help coaches become more aware of their health status and take preventive measures where necessary. He further recommended that these health checks be extended to all backroom staff involved with league teams.

Expressing his shock at Coach Olowookere’s untimely death, Coach Adepoju prayed for the Almighty God to grant the bereaved family the strength to bear this great loss.
