The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) serves up its biggest fixture of the season so far on Sunday as two unbeaten giants — Enyimba International and Rivers United — lock horns in a high-stakes clash in Aba.
Dubbed the “Clash of the Unbeatens”, the encounter headlines Matchday 7 and promises fireworks, with both former champions eager to preserve their perfect starts to the 2025/2026 campaign.

Adding an intriguing subplot to the encounter is a remarkable coaching shuffle between the two clubs. Stanley Eguma, who led Rivers United to their historic league triumph, now sits in Enyimba’s dugout, while Finidi George and Yemi Olanrewaju — the masterminds behind Enyimba’s last NPFL title — now steer the Pride of Rivers from Port Harcourt.
Enyimba, currently second on the log with 12 points from six matches, remain the only side to have played all their games and stayed unbeaten. Rivers United, just behind with a game in hand, also boast an unblemished record.
The head-to-head record adds further spice — in 20 meetings since 2016, Rivers United have claimed nine wins to Enyimba’s six, with five ending in stalemates.
Last season’s meeting in Aba went Enyimba’s way (1–0), but Rivers have enjoyed memorable triumphs there before. On Sunday, something has to give — whose unbeaten run will crumble first?
Elsewhere, Rangers International host Katsina United in Enugu, while Kwara United welcome Abia Warriors to Ilorin.
In Ibadan, a rejuvenated Shooting Stars test their resurgence against Plateau United, and Barau FC look to build on their maiden NPFL win when they face Warri Wolves in Kano.
Niger Tornadoes tackle Kun Khalifat FC in Minna, Bayelsa United aim to end a three-match losing streak against Ikorodu City in Yenagoa, and reigning champions Remo Stars round off the Matchday 7 fixtures on Monday against Wikki Tourists in Abeokuta.
With unbeaten runs, title ambitions, and emotional reunions all converging, Aba stands as the epicentre of NPFL drama this weekend.
