Chukwueze’s Toe Comes Under Spotlight In Fulham’s Home Defeat By Crystal Palace

References to a toe that apparently extended beyond proportion for Fulham of England winger, Samuel Chukwueze has surprisingly come into focus in the English Premier League.

Sports247 reports that a mention of Chukwueze’s toe actually came from Fulham’s manager, Marco Silva, while trying to explain his side’s 2-1 loss at home against Crystal Palace.

Chukwueze was on from the start of the encounter at Craven Cottage, alongside Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, but the Nigerian trio could not save their team from falling at home to Palace, who featured Chrisantus Uche as a 66th minute substitute.

Surprisingly, in contrast with their stunning effort at a comeback in a 5-4 loss to Manchester City at same venue last Tuesday, The Cottagers failed to shine on Sunday, and Chukwueze bowed out in the 76th minute.

While Bassey played for all 90 minutes, Iwobi was yanked off in the 89th, as the hosts struggled to find their rhythm, much to the chagrin of Silva, who mentioned Chkwueze’s nails while trying to find an explanation for the slump.

“Probably the nail of Chukwueze is too big for the sport that we are playing. Now, another decision from the VAR against ourselves,” The Cottagers’ tactician retorted metaphorically.

The gaffer also mentioned Iwobi while trying to put a finger on how his midfield failed to take control of possession and dictate the pace of the game that was a London derby and a crucial home fixture.

“It’s a zone where we have the strongest players to fight for that. King was a starting point to block. Alex was with Richards. It’s the zone of the box where we have our strongest players there,” Silva stated.

Sports247 gathered that Silva’s words were in reference to how Iwobi headed against a post in the second half, while a VAR review picked Chukwueze marginally offside on what initially appeared to be a goal for Fulham.
