Nigeria’s Christabel Chukwuonye has been crowned the Best Bowler of the 2026 Kwibuka Women’s T20I Tournament which concluded on Saturday.
Christabel Chukwunonye was crowned as the best Bowler following a series of outstanding performances that helped the Female Yellow Greens secure a podium finish in Kigali, Rwanda.
Chukwuonye emerged as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, claiming 17 wickets in seven innings at an impressive average of 7.18 and an economy rate of 4.95.
Her consistency and ability to deliver in crucial moments made her one of the standout performers of the competition.
The Nigerian bowler also produced several match-winning spells during the tournament and delivered a Player of the Match performance when it mattered most, underlining her importance to the team’s success.
The 2026 Kwibuka Women’s T20I Tournament was held from June 10 to 20 in Kigali, Rwanda, with matches played at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium and Gahanga B Ground.
The annual tournament commemorates the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and featured five teams: Nigeria, Rwanda, Brazil, Malawi, and Zimbabwe High Performance XI.
Nigeria finished third overall after defeating Brazil by two wickets in the third-place playoff, securing a bronze-medal finish. Zimbabwe High Performance XI claimed their maiden Kwibuka title after overcoming hosts Rwanda in the final.
Reacting to Chukwuonye’s achievement, the Nigeria Cricket Federation praised the bowler for her remarkable contributions throughout the tournament.
“17 wickets, several match-winning moments, and a Player of the Match performance when it mattered most. Congratulations to Christabel Chukwuonye on being named the Best Bowler of the 2026 Kwibuka Women’s T20I Tournament. Your brilliance with the ball helped power Nigeria to a podium finish,” the federation stated.
Chukwuonye’s award serves as further recognition of Nigeria’s growing stature in women’s cricket and highlights the promising talent within the Female Yellow Greens setup.
