Chikwelu, Okobi, Orji Set Falcons’ Camp Alight

The foreign-based trio of Rita Chikwelu, Ebere Orji and Ngozi Okobi were among the early arrivals in the camp of Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons, as the squad step of preparations for the 2018 African Women Nations Cup in Ghana.

Although Falcons’ coach, Thomas Dennerby gave a deadline of this Sunday, November 4 for all players invited from overseas to arrive, sports247.ng gathered that Orji, Okobi and Chikwelu were among the lot that arrived well ahead of time.

They were joined in early Wednesday training by Chinwendu Ihezuo, Osinachi Ohale, Josephine Chukwunonye, Charity Adule, Ogonna Chukwudi, Chinaza Uchendu, Faith Michael and Halimat Ayinde.

They have all hit the ground running, ahead of the 11th AWCON in Ghana, with nine foreign based stars already in the camp at Jubilee Chalets & Resort, Epe, Lagos State by Thursday morning.

Dennerby, who gave reprieves to Asisat Oshoala, Onome Ebui and Desiree Oparanozie to arrive early next week, due to club duties this weekend, lined the team out for a friendly against a male youth club on Thursday.

The build-up game against Dominion Hotspur was the Falcons’ first friendly match since they opened camp two weeks ago in Epe.

Nigeria is drawn to play South Africa, Kenya and Zambia in Group B of AWCON 2018, with Cape Coast as venue, starting with an opening encounter against Banyana Banyana on Sunday, 18th November.
