Manchester United’s coach, Ruben Amorim has come out with a stunning verdict that the club’s decision to promote Nigerian-born whiz-kid, Chidozie Obi-Martin (aka Chido Obi) into their main team came too soon.
Sports247 reports that, though Chido Obi showed great promise when he scored twice in an international club friendly against Hong Kong FC on May 30th, he has struggled to gain top form ever since.

Remarkably too, Obi, who will turn 18 this Saturday, scored 32 goals in 23 games for Arsenal’s U18s, but left when he was not promoted into the first team, and his next port of call became Old Trafford.
Obi appeared on his way rapidly to the top on May 4th, when (aged 17 years, 156 days) he became United’s youngest player ever to get a senior competitive debut, as he started for The Red Devils against Brentford.
The kid, who was born to Nigerian parents in Glostrup area of Copenhagen, Denmark on November 29, 2007, not only broke a record that was previously held by Mason Greenwood, he also showed signs of greater things to come from his deft feet.
Though the Denmark under-21 international, who grew through the academy of Kjobenhavns Boldklub (KB) in the country of his birth, quickly got eight senior games across all competitions at United, he failed to score in any, hence Amorim’s verdict that the lad’s promotion came too soon.
Amorim also hinted about attitude issues affecting Obi, as the gaffer declared, “He’s one of the guys, but he started too soon. Sometimes it’s hard to deal with that, with the kids, because they think that ‘I’m already here.’
“When you call a kid up to the first team, they need to behave really well. This connection is really important. (Otherwise), when we put these kids to play in the Premier League, they will struggle.”
