Manchester United of England youngster, Chidozie-Obi Martin (aka Chido Obi) needed emergency medical attention on Monday night, as he suffered a serious head injury after only ten seconds of action.
Sports247 reports that it was a scary and freak injury, as the 18-year-old Nigerian-born dazzler had to be substituted after being struck in his head by the ball from a clearance by Chelsea’s under-21 goalkeeper, Max Merrick.

Obi was bearing down on the ball but got in the way as Merrick hit it out and straight at the youngster, who fell flat and was laid out on the turf for more than five minutes while medics worked on him.
Ironically, Merrick also had to receive treatment five minutes later, after colliding in The Blues’ box with Obi’s replacement, Victor Musa (full name Victor Osezele Musa Aigbomian), who is also a Nigerian-born lad.
Musa was born in Tudela-Navarre, Spain but has played for England at youth international level, yet remains eligible for Nigeria, as he holds the country’s international passport.
He moved with his mother to England in 2017, a year after his father relocated there for work, following which the youngster attended St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic College in Bradford.
The young striker made his debut as a substitute for Spain’s under-16 national team on November 24, 2021, but soon switched allegiance to play for England and got his debut the following month.
Musa was again under the spotlight on Monday, as he stepped off United’s youth team’s bench in place of highly rated Obi, who was part of The Red Devils’ main squad’s first-team training last week.
Obi had been hoping to further impress Man United’s rave-making coach, Michael Carrick, who was present at the youth game on Monday night in Leigh, where the U21s dropped to second place in the Premier League 2.
Apprehension is now high at Old Trafford about the chances of Obi getting back into full fitness before The Red Devils’ U21 side face Real Madrid in the Premier League International Cup quarter-finals.
