Chiamaka Nnadozie, Rasheedat Ajibade Make Impressive New Club Debuts

Super Falcons stars Chiamaka Nnadozie and Rasheedat Ajibade made their long-awaited debuts for their new clubs over the weekend, marking the opening round of the 2025–26 European women’s football season.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie announced herself in the Barclays Women’s Super League with a commanding display as Brighton & Hove Albion held Aston Villa to a goalless draw.

The 24-year-old, who joined Brighton from Paris FC in July, was handed the No. 1 jersey and immediately justified her manager’s faith with a clean sheet on debut.

She produced four crucial saves, three punches, and two high claims to keep Villa at bay.

Nnadozie’s composure and sharp reflexes stood out, while her leadership in organising the defence highlighted why she is rated among Africa’s finest shot-stoppers.

The Nigerian international’s performance will provide Brighton with confidence as they seek to improve on last season’s campaign.

Having already impressed at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and Olympic Games, Nnadozie’s transition to the English top flight further cements her growing reputation on the global stage.

In France, Rasheedat Ajibade made her first appearance for Paris Saint-Germain in a 1-1 draw away to RC Lens.

The Super Falcons captain, who joined PSG this summer after four successful years at Atletico Madrid, came on at halftime as the Parisians were frustrated by the newly promoted side.

Ajibade’s international teammate Jennifer Echegini was influential for PSG, providing the assist for Merveille Kanjinga’s 24th-minute opener before being substituted late on.

Elsewhere in England, Rofiat Imuran featured for London City Lionesses in their Women’s Super League debut against reigning champions Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Lionesses stunned the hosts early through a Kosovare Asllani penalty, but Arsenal responded with strikes from Olivia Smith and Chloe Kelly before halftime. Stina Blackstenius and Frida Maanum added late goals to complete a 4-1 victory.

Imuran impressed with her pace and attacking runs down the left flank, but was forced off with a knock in the closing stages.
