Brentford, England – A new chapter in Nigerian football may have quietly begun in the heart of Brentford as 16-year-old Chelsea U18 sensation Chizzy Ezenwata met with Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle in a rare but impactful encounter that could shape the teenager’s international future.
Ezenwata, widely regarded as one of the most exciting young forwards in Chelsea’s academy, was visibly thrilled by the opportunity to meet Chelle, who recently took the reins of Nigeria’s senior national team.

The informal meeting, described as warm and inspiring, was held in Brentford where both parties exchanged encouragement and visions of the future.
“Coach Chelle was very welcoming. His words really inspired me,” said Ezenwata, who currently stands out as one of the most clinical finishers in the Premier League youth scene.
Born in England to a Nigerian father and Cameroonian mother, Ezenwata is eligible to represent Nigeria, Cameroon, or England at the international level. His father’s wish is clear: to see Chizzy wear the green and white of Nigeria.
“It’s in his blood. Chizzy was raised with Nigerian values. Representing the Super Eagles would mean the world to us,” said Ndubuisi Ezenwata, Chizzy’s father, in an earlier interview.
Chizzy’s recent performances have only fueled the hype. At just 16, he’s already scored over 100 goals across youth competitions, impressing coaches with his composure, finishing, and off-the-ball movement. In recent U18 fixtures, he scored a clutch penalty in a win over Aston Villa and netted a brace in a thriller against Arsenal.
“He’s a natural striker and a fantastic finisher,” Chelsea U18 coach Hassan Sulaiman noted. “I’m really pleased with Chizzy. He’s maturing game by game.”
The encounter with Chelle, while not officially sanctioned by either federation or club, is being viewed by insiders as a strategic move — a way for Nigeria to court one of the brightest young dual nationals in European football.
Coach Chelle, known for his progressive approach and emphasis on youth integration, reportedly encouraged Chizzy to continue working hard and expressed interest in keeping an eye on his development. Sources close to the meeting say the tone was “very positive,” with mutual admiration and cultural pride at the center of the conversation.
