An allegation by Super Eagles’ coach, Eric Sekou Chelle that someone in the crew of DR Congo’s national team used voodoo to influence their penalties’ victory against Nigeria has gone viral on social media, Sports247 reports.
The Franco-Malian gaffer threw caution to the wind as he openly protested what he reckoned was spiritual manipulation by a Congolese official during his side’s 4-3 loss at the shootout, following a 1-1 end to extra time in their World Cup play-off final.

Ugly scenes erupted a the end of the match in Rabat, Morocco, as Chelle repeatedly ran towards the DR Congo bench in an attempt to apprehend the perceived culprit, only to be retrained by his assistant coaches and members of the opposing team’s crew.
Those ugly scenes have, however, gone viral on social media, with several websites, platforms and blogs now sharing the images repeatedly.
Adding its version to the escalating saga, Daily Mail of England wrote in part, “Footage published on social media saw Chelle attempting to confront members of the DR Congo coaching staff before the final penalty of the shoot-out.
“The former Mali international was seen with his arms outstretched and shouting towards the DR Congo staff, before picking up a water bottle.”
Similarly, a post on X from @MickyJnr__ read: “OFF CAMERA DRAMA!! Nigeria’s coach, Éric Sékou Chelle, was captured trying to fight just before the last penalty kick of the game!
“He was reportedly picking up a water bottle, seemingly aiming at a member of the DR Congo technical team. The match commissioner will include this in his report, and it could lead to sanctions against Chelle.”
Sports247 gathered further from an additional report by The Athletic that a DR Congo representative has vehemently denied Chelle’s allegation.
