Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has issued a rallying call to his players to remain focused and disciplined as Nigeria prepare to take on Lesotho in their penultimate 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Polokwane, South Africa.
Speaking ahead of the crucial fixture, Chelle emphasized that the group standings remain unpredictable and that his side cannot afford any slip-ups. With just a few games left to decide who advances, he urged his players to concentrate solely on the task at hand — securing all three points.

“Anything can still happen in this group,” Chelle said. “We must stay focused, take each game as it comes, and play like every match is a final. The goal is clear — we need all three points.”
The Super Eagles currently face a tense battle in Group C, where every team still has a mathematical chance of qualification. A win over Lesotho would significantly boost Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada — a feat the team and nation are desperate to achieve after missing out on Qatar 2022.
Chelle, who took charge earlier this year, has been working to rebuild confidence and tactical discipline within the squad, blending experienced stars with a new wave of young talents like Akor Adams, Calvin Bassey, and Ademola Lookman.
“We’ve worked hard in camp, and the players know what’s at stake,” he continued. “It’s not just about playing well — it’s about winning. Nigeria deserves to be at the World Cup, and we will fight for that.”
The match in Polokwane will serve as a litmus test for Chelle’s evolving philosophy — a balance of composure, aggression, and tactical awareness. With the team reportedly showing sharpness in training, all eyes are now on whether the Super Eagles can translate preparation into performance when it matters most.
