Chelle Hails Super Eagles’ Fighting Spirit, Labels Osimhen ‘Best Striker in the World’

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has expressed immense satisfaction following his team’s emphatic 4–0 win over Benin Republic, a result that sealed Nigeria’s place in the FIFA World Cup qualification playoffs.

Speaking after the game, Chelle admitted that it was not an easy journey getting the players to adapt to his new philosophy and tactical system, but praised their resilience and unity in delivering when it mattered most.

“It wasn’t easy getting everyone to adjust to the new style, but the boys showed real character. Their fighting spirit gives hope to the entire country,” Chelle said.

The coach highlighted that while qualification for the playoff round is a big step forward, there’s still plenty of work ahead. He emphasized the need for focus, discipline, and improvement, particularly as Nigeria faces tougher opponents in the next phase.

“We’re not there yet — we’ve only crossed an important hurdle. But the dream is alive, and this team has shown that they can rise to any challenge,” he added.

Chelle reserved special praise for hat-trick hero Victor Osimhen, calling the Galatasaray forward “the best striker in the world right now.”

“Osimhen gives everything for the team — his hunger, his movement, and his desire to win are exceptional. He’s a world-class striker and a leader by example.”

Nigeria’s 4–0 triumph — with Osimhen scoring three times and Frank Onyeka sealing the victory in stoppage time — sent fans across the country into wild celebration as the Super Eagles took a major step toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
