Chelle Confirms Dessers Ruled Out of AFCON, Provides Alebiosu Injury Update

Super Eagles head coach Eric Sekhou Chelle has confirmed that Cyril Dessers will miss the remainder of Nigeria’s AFCON campaign after sustaining a thigh injury, describing the setback as a major disappointment for both player and team.

Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s next fixture, Chelle revealed that the injury could sideline the striker for an extended period.

“It’s a thigh injury — maybe 10 to 12 weeks,” Chelle said.

“It’s so disappointing for him, but we have to get ready for what is in front of us and play a great game tomorrow.”

As a result of the injury, Dessers has returned to his club and will not be part of Nigeria’s AFCON journey, ruling him out of contention for the remainder of the tournament.

The coach, however, delivered more positive news regarding Ryan Alebiosu, who had raised concerns after picking up a knock.

“It’s just a little cut,” Chelle explained.

“He is fine and getting better every day.”

With the knockout stages underway, Chelle emphasised the importance of focus and adaptability within the squad, as the Super Eagles prepare to push forward despite the loss of one of their attacking options.

Nigeria will now rely on the depth and resilience of the team as they continue their AFCON campaign, aiming to maintain momentum and deliver a strong performance in the crucial fixture ahead.
