Remo Stars FC of Ikenne midfielder, Olamilekan Muhammed Adedayo has declared that he and his colleagues in Nigeria’s home-based national team are fully focused on winning this year’s Championship of African Nations (CHAN 2025).
Sports247 reports that Nigeria has a silver and bronze from a couple of past editions of the competition meant for players who feature for domestic clubs in their respective countries, but Adedayo believes the current squad will win gold.

Olamilekan Adedayo went on to reveal that Super Eagles’ technical adviser, Eric Sekou Chelle, who is in charge of the CHAN squad, has imparted a championship winning mentality into all the players in camp.
Casting his thoughts ahead of Nigeria’s opening game, which will be on Tuesday against the defending champions, Senegal, Olamilekan declared that it is an opportunity for him to make up for past disappointments that he has faced.
The Remo Stars number 10, who will clock 24 years next week Saturday, four days after the clash with Senegal, disclosed, “I am coming back stronger to win this year’s CHAN.
“When I was in under-17, I was dropped. In under-23, I was dropped. I’ve now met myself here, and the coach has a strong belief in me.
“He loves my style of play. That’s why he put me on his final list for this CHAN, and I am so happy about it. It’s my performance with Remo Stars that brought me here.”
The creative midfielder, who can also play the holding role for his team, went on to shower accolades on Chelle and described the Franco-Malian gaffer as a very meticulous tactician who aims only for the best.
Olamilekan Adedayo revealed, “We have a very, very deep coach … the type that I’ve never met in my life. He wants us to do everything right.
“He wants it all … intensity, aggressive play and never-say-die spirit. He just wants you to give it all you’ve got.”
Adedayo concluded with a tone of optimism that Chelle’s tactics and motivational approach can go a long way in ensuring that this squad of home-based players eventually gets Nigeria’s first CHAN title.
“We always have one-on-one meetings with the coach to talk about CHAN and his goal. He wants us to go there and give it all.
“We don’t want to come second or third. We want to get the gold. That’s our target, and I’m definitely sure we will get there,” Adedayo assured.
Sports247 reports that Adedayo and his colleagues will pick lessons from two draws (0-0 and 2-2) with less fancied Zanzibar in their build-up friendlies this week, as they get set to battle Senegal on Tuesday, then face Sudan and Congo in the same group.
