Nduka expressed confidence that the team can ride on the momentum of Nigerian sports’ recent triumphs.
“To our fellow Nigerians, I know expectations are high because we have been doing well in sports, and we’ll try our best not to let them down,” Nduka told reporters during Monday’s pre-match press conference.
“Our women’s football team just won the WAFCON, and our basketball team also claimed the AfroBasket title. It’s a great record for the country, and we hope to build on that success.”
Coach Éric Chelle, who has been drilling the home-based squad ahead of the tournament, emphasized the importance of taking one game at a time.
“I don’t want to talk about Congo or Sudan yet,” Chelle said. “Our focus is on our first match against Senegal. We’ll approach each game step by step. This is a big clash between two strong football nations, and Senegal has a good generation of players. Our preparation has been solid, and we aim to put that into action on the pitch.”
Nigeria’s CHAN 2024 team, composed entirely of players from the domestic league, faces a tough challenge against Senegal’s physically dominant and tactically sharp side.
With Nduka’s leadership and Chelle’s tactical planning, the Super Eagles B are determined to make a strong start and chase continental glory in Zanzibar.
The Super Falcons conquered Africa last week at the 2024 WAFCON to make ten titles in 13 editions while the National Women Basketball Team D’Tigress make five titles on the bounce, and seven overall at the 2024 FIBA AfroBasketball in Cote D’Ivoire this past weekend of which the Nigeria government rewarded each of the players with 100,000 dollars, landed properties and National awards of OON.
