Remo Stars of Ikenne striker, Sikiru Alimi has promised that he and his colleagues in Nigeria’s home-based national team will put up improved performances during this year’s Championship of African Nations (CHAN 2024).
Sports247 reports that the Eagles’ B-squad will face Senegal on Tuesday in their first match of this year’s competition, meant only for players based in their countries, ahead of which Alimi assured that the team will correct all their weaknesses.
He admitted that their goalless draw with Zanzibar in a friendly earlier this week was not good enough, but pointed out that it was their first build-up match, and they played the game under unfavourable weather conditions.
Alimi added, “This was our first international friendly. That was why it was difficult. We also faced the weather, and we had to acclimatise quickly.
“Eventually, we got into the game, and we created a few chances. Unfortunately, we couldn’t convert them.”
The vastly experienced Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) campaigner, who has also featured in a number of matches for the Eagles’ A-team, declared that the CHAN 2024 squad will correct all their errors before Tuesday’s game with Senegal.
“A lot of lessons could be learnt from the game. Our coaches pinpointed where we went short and, in subsequent games, we’ll correct our mistakes.”
Alimi also looked beyond Tuesday’s opening match versus Senegal, as he projected: “We’ll continue to grow and improve with every game.”
Sports247 gathered that the CHAN squad, which is being handled by Eagles’ main coach, Eric Chelle, will next play Sudan on August 12th and then end their group fixtures versus Congo on August 19th.
