Champions Emerge In Bayelsa State League Competition

Son’s United Fc of Ukubie have emerged champions of the 6th edition of the Bayelsa State Football Association League after weeks of hostility across different venues.

In the final decision at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, ten-man Son’s United Fc of Ukubie Spanked Dreams Football Academy three-nil to win the trophy in their debut season.

Sambrica Robinson opened the floodgates of goals 60 minutes after a cagey first half, as Restoration Cup top scorer Junior Christopher doubled the scoreline on 80 minutes to compound Dream FA woes who failed to take their chances in the opening minutes of the second half.

Prior to the final, Son’s United Fc of Ukubie overpowered God’s City Ministry Fc by three goals to two to advance to the final while Dream FA beat Eternal Grace Ministry EGM.

Son’s United Fc will now represent Bayelsa State in the national division three playoffs in Calabar.

Speaking at the event Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Daniel Igali represented by Director of Sports Bayelsa State sports council Sir Braveman Wodi said he was happy with the level of progress made by the Bayelsa State Football Association.

He also expressed the need for local coaches to be empowered in building capacity

Also, the state chairman of Bayelsa State Football Association Mr. Porbeni Ogun while thanking the participating teams for their professionalism and doggedness said the essence of the tournament has been achieved by engaging the youths meaningfully.

Mr, Ogun explained that the State League produced players who are plying their trade in Bayelsa United and other club sides in the Country.

In a post-match interview, both coaches Kenneth Opukeme of Dream FA and Clement Edobor of Son’s United Fc shared their sentiments on the competition.

They both thanked the State Football Association and the league sponsors for successfully organising the State league.
