Celtic Seal Iheanacho Deal, Striker Reunites with Brendan Rodgers

Scottish champions Celtic have completed the signing of Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year contract, with an option for an additional year.

The club confirmed the move on Tuesday evening, noting that the deal remains subject to international clearance.

Iheanacho, who left Sevilla on Monday, after termination of contract by mutual consent now reunites with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

The pair previously worked together at Leicester City, where the striker made over 200 appearances, scored crucial goals, and helped the Foxes win the FA Cup in 2021.

The 28-year-old forward began his professional journey at Manchester City, where he lifted the League Cup before sealing a transfer to Leicester in 2017.

During his time in England, he established himself as a reliable finisher and a versatile attacking option.

In 2024, Iheanacho joined Sevilla but found limited opportunities in Spain.

He later secured a loan move to Middlesbrough in the English Championship, where he closed out the 2024/25 season.

Internationally, Iheanacho has been a consistent figure for the Super Eagles.

With nearly 60 caps, he played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s impressive run to the Africa Cup of Nations final in 2023, further cementing his reputation as a player for big occasions.

Brendan Rodgers expressed excitement about working with Iheanacho again. “I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team,” he said.

“He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work-rate. I am sure he will love being at Celtic, and our fans will love what he brings.”

With his proven pedigree and experience across Europe, Iheanacho arrives at Celtic Park ready to make an immediate impact in Scotland.
