CCL: Nahuri Spot Kick Sink Lobi Stars Condems to Tight Rope

Nigeria’s representative at this year’s CAF Champions league, Lobi Stars suffered a first home loss and now need a signs and wonders to qualify for the quarter finals of the competition after the disappointing 1-0 loss at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu to visiting Wydad Athletic club of Morocco.

Lobi Stars 1-0 defeat in Ivory Coast to ASEC Mimosa, the Nigerian side made five changes to the squad handing group stage débuts to the trio of Sanni Bah-Yere, Michael Stephen and Kadiri Samad, whilst there was a return for the duo of Ekene Olisema and Kelly Kester in the starting XI.

The Solomon Ogbedie boys were condemned to win following Sundowns result against ASEC on Friday night but the Nigerian side failed to fly in front of an almost empty stadium in Enugu.

With both side testing each others resolve early in the match the visitors got a golden opportunity to take the lead when left back Sanni Bah-yere made a clumsy challenge in the box, leaving the degree no choice but to point to the spot.

Mohammed Nahuri stepped up and dispatched the spot kick perfectly much to the joy of the visitors who surprisingly had a handful of Nigerian supporter’s present at the stadium.

Lobi did however push for an equaliser but failed in their pursuit ast the visitors were resolute in their defending.

With less than 30 minutes left on the clock, the Moroccan’s were presented with another spot kick this time it was saved by the impressive Kayode Olufemi who just about kept Lobi in the match but the Markurdi side failed to find a equaliser as they remain third in the group after three rounds of matches.

The win thus earn Wydad their first win on Nigerian soil, whilst Lobi Stars will now need a miracle when both side clash in ten days at the Mohammed V stadium in Casablanca.
