Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has singled out Cape Verde national football team as Africa’s biggest revelation at the ongoing FIFA World Cup, praising the Blue Sharks for exceeding expectations on football’s biggest stage.
Oliseh believes the island nation has shown that organisation, discipline and belief can bridge the gap between smaller football nations and the world’s elite.

“Cape Verde have impressed me more than any other African team,” Oliseh said.
The former Super Eagles skipper acknowledged that FIFA’s expanded World Cup has created opportunities for more African countries to showcase their quality, but admitted not every team has made the most of that chance.
According to him, Cape Verde have stood out because of their tactical discipline and resilience against stronger opponents.
“They have been organised, disciplined and resilient throughout the tournament,” he added.
Oliseh also praised the team’s mentality, noting that their performances have come despite having fewer resources and less international experience than many of their rivals.
“What they’ve achieved with their limited experience and resources is remarkable,” he stated.
The former midfielder revealed he will continue supporting the Blue Sharks for the remainder of the competition, describing them as one of the tournament’s most inspiring stories.
Cape Verde are making only their first FIFA World Cup appearance, but their displays have earned widespread praise and reinforced the growing competitiveness of African football on the global stage.
