Calvin Bassey Voted Fulham’s Player of the Season in Standout 2024/25 Campaign

Calvin Bassey has been named Fulham’s Player of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign, earning the club’s highest vote share of 39.6 per cent from the fans. The Nigerian international centre-back finished well ahead of teammate Alex Iwobi, who placed second with 21.5 per cent of the vote. Antonee Robinson came third with 19.9 per cent. Goalkeeper Bernd Leno finished fourth with 10.9 per cent.

Bassey featured in 35 Premier League matches this season, a key part of Fulham’s 11th-place finish. His strong defensive performances—averaging 0.6 interceptions, 1.5 tackles, 4.8 ball recoveries, and 3.2 clearances per match—helped Fulham to five clean sheets. He also scored two vital goals: a decisive strike against Nottingham Forest in February and a goal versus Manchester United during their FA Cup run.

This season marks a milestone: Bassey is the first Nigerian—and first African—to receive Fulham’s Player of the Season award since its inception. Previously runner-up last season, he’s now firmly established himself as a leading figure in the team.

The 25-year-old joined Fulham from Ajax in July 2023 and quickly became a defensive linchpin. His consistent displays have drawn praise from pundits as well. Former Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given highlighted Bassey’s standout performance in Fulham’s 3–2 win over Liverpool on Match of the Day 2, even comparing his development to elite players like Virgil van Dijk.

As the season concludes, Bassey’s exceptional form suggests he’s not just a defensive mainstay at Craven Cottage, but also a leading force in Nigeria’s national team setup.
