CAFCL: Emekayi, Finidi, Confident Ahead of Rivers United Second Leg Tie Against Aigles du Congo

Rivers United team captain Temple Emekayi and head coach Finidi George has expressed confidence ahead of CAF Champions League second leg tie against Aigles du Congo on Sunday .

Rivers United are in for a decisive showdown in the return leg of the first preliminary round at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Sunday.

After a goalless first leg in Brazzaville, the tie remains delicately poised, with both sides eyeing a place in the next round.

The Pride of Rivers know that only a victory will secure their passage, and the squad’s mood in camp suggests full confidence.

Speaking to the press ahead of the tie, Club captain Temple Emekayi reassured supporters of the team’s determination and readiness for the battle ahead.

“We are lively and good to go. We can’t wait for tomorrow because we are really hungry for victory. The camp is bubbling and there are no injury concerns. Everyone is fit and ready for selection,” he said.

Emekayi also called on the fans to rally behind the team, describing their presence in Uyo as a major boost.

“Seeing them here is a plus to us. Their support will motivate us to give our all. We are not going to let them down,” the skipper added.

Head coach Finidi George shared the same confidence, insisting his players are focused and tactically prepared.

“We are fully prepared. We know their strengths and weaknesses and we’ll try to capitalise on them. There’s no pressure whatsoever. We know we must score to go through, and we’ll defend properly,” Finidi said.

The coach also underlined the importance of starting strongly to put the Congolese side under immediate pressure.

“From the blast of the whistle, we have to take the fight to them. If we get early goals, the fans will be on our side all through.”
