Bayelsa Queens head coach, Ogbonda Whyte, has confirmed that the team has begun strengthening its squad in preparation for the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
Following their campaign in the NWFL Super Six, Ogbonda noted that technical assessments revealed key areas needing reinforcement, prompting the club to begin recruiting standout performers from rival NWFL sides.

“Definitely, we are already on it. The team needs to be strengthened in areas where we discovered one or two lapses during the Super Six. Bearing in mind that we are going into Africa, we have to get the best legs to represent Nigeria,” he said.
While recruitment is underway, Ogbonda expressed concern over some clubs’ reluctance to release players.
“We are only appealing to NWFL clubs to agree to release the players. Most times, they don’t agree, but we’re still on it and begging them. We want to fortify Bayelsa Queens to give Nigeria a strong second team at the CAF qualifiers.”
Bayelsa Queens will be aiming for a solid continental outing as Nigeria seeks to maintain its dominance in African women’s club football.
