CAF Women Champions League: AS FAR Crowned Champions Edge ASEC Mimosas in Tight Final

AS FAR reclaimed their position at the pinnacle of African women’s club football after defeating ASEC Mimosas 2–1 to win the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League title on Friday at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt.

The Moroccan side, champions in 2022 and runners-up in 2024, completed a remarkable redemption journey to secure their second continental crown.

Their victory now places them alongside Mamelodi Sundowns as the only clubs with two titles in the competition’s history.

For the Royal Army club, the triumph is especially significant after being denied back-to-back titles last year by TP Mazembe—whom they eliminated in this year’s semi-finals.

AS FAR started the final on the front foot and took the lead in the 13th minute when captain Hanane Aït El Haj converted a penalty. The Moroccans maintained control for much of the first half, showing composure in possession and discipline at the back to preserve their 1–0 advantage at the break.

ASEC Mimosas emerged stronger in the second half, making tactical adjustments that shifted the momentum.

Their efforts were rewarded in the 55th minute when Ami Prisca Diallo fired home the equaliser after an excellent assist from Sopie Philomène Marie Ange Brou.

The match opened up as both sides pushed for a winner, with substitutes introduced to influence the tense contest. The decisive moment arrived in the 85th minute when AS FAR won their second penalty of the night. Zineb Redouani stepped up and confidently converted to restore the Moroccan lead.

Despite late pressure from the Ivorians, including a final surge led by Anastasie Aimée Gbéhi, AS FAR held firm. Substitute Sofia Bouftini delivered crucial midfield control in the dying minutes to help close out the victory.

With this hard-earned win, AS FAR are once again champions of Africa, reclaiming the trophy they first lifted in 2022 and reinforcing their status as one of the continent’s elite women’s football clubs.
