CAF Hails Super Eagles’ Native Attire; Says Nigeria ‘Blend Contemporary Confidence With Tradition’

Sports247 reports that, while noting all the countries that arrived in native garbs for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), CAF noted that Nigeria’s players showed a blend of ‘contemporary confidence with tradition.’

Other countries that received a mention in this regard included Mali, Benin Republic, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, Senegal and Comoros.

Commendations were splashed across the continent’s football governing body’s website – cafonline.com – in celebration of the countries that were ‘proudly dressed in national cultural attire … to project history, heritage and belonging.’

CAF’s eulogies in recognition of the Eagles’ aesthetics noted at length: “True to reputation, Nigeria made a bold yet culturally rooted entrance.

“The Super Eagles arrived in deep green traditional ensembles, reflecting the national colour and Nigeria’s cultural influence across the continent.

“Loose-fitting tunics were decorated with lighter-green embroidery inspired by Yoruba and northern Nigerian designs, paired with tailored trousers.

“Some players added caps and sunglasses, blending contemporary confidence with tradition.

“The message was unmistakable: Nigeria had arrived not only to compete, but to be seen — assured, expressive and unmistakably African.”
