‘CAF Failed Its Own Rules!’ Broos Slams AFCON Final Handling

South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has launched a strong criticism of the Confederation of African Football, accusing the governing body of failing to apply its own regulations consistently following the controversial AFCON final.

Broos clarified that his frustration is not directed at either Senegal national team or Morocco national team, but strictly at CAF’s handling of the situation.

“My issue is not with the teams, but with CAF,” Broos said.

The Belgian tactician pointed to a key moment in the final when Senegal players reportedly walked off the pitch for 17 minutes — an incident he believes should have triggered immediate disciplinary action.

“That situation should have been dealt with immediately,” he added.

According to Broos, failure to act promptly in such situations undermines the credibility of the competition and raises questions about consistency in decision-making.

“CAF did not apply its own rules properly,” he stated.

He stressed that clear enforcement of regulations is essential to maintaining fairness and integrity in football.

Broos concluded by urging CAF to review its processes and ensure that future competitions are handled with greater clarity, consistency, and authority to avoid similar controversies.
