CAF Confederation Cup: Abia Warriors, Kwara United Crash Out In Preliminary Round

Nigerian representatives Abia Warriors and Kwara United have both been eliminated from the 2025 CAF Confederation Cup after suffering defeats in their respective return-leg fixtures on Sunday.

At the Stade Modibo Keita in Bamako, Mali, Abia Warriors fell 1-0 to Djoliba AC, courtesy of a second-half strike that sealed a 2-1 aggregate win for the Malian side.

The Nigerian debutants, who had drawn the first leg 1-1 in Aba, could not find the cutting edge needed to turn the tie around despite a spirited performance.

In Abeokuta, Kwara United also bowed out after a 1-0 defeat to Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

The slim loss confirmed a 5-3 aggregate victory for the visitors, who had already established control of the tie with a 4-3 win in Kumasi last weekend.

The results mean both Nigerian clubs exit the competition at the very first preliminary round, continuing a worrying trend of early continental exits for NPFL sides.

Djoliba AC and Asante Kotoko, meanwhile, advance to the next stage of the Confederation Cup qualifiers as they continue their push for a place in the group phase.
