“It’s a very strong group, and I credit Rivers United for their ability to make it into the group stage — that’s history on its own,” Ozurumba said

“The next stage will be tougher because their opponents are strong teams, but the fact that Rivers United made it this far shows they are also a formidable side. Their opponents must be wary of them.”

The two-time CAF Champions League winner also lauded head coach Finidi George for his tactical leadership and the confidence he has instilled in the squad.

“I must commend Finidi George for building a team capable of qualifying for the group stage and for the belief he has brought into the players,” he added. “With hard work and a bit of luck — which every big stage requires — Rivers United can go far in the competition.”

Ozurumba, who played a key role in Enyimba’s back-to-back CAF Champions League triumphs in 2003 and 2004, believes Rivers United have the quality to advance if they remain disciplined and focused throughout the campaign.

“For me, Rivers United will qualify from that group, but they need to keep working hard. If they do, the results will show. I strongly believe they have what it takes,” he concluded.

The NPFL legend, Ozurumba is remembered for his prolific goal-scoring exploits with Heartland FC (formerly Iwuanyanwu Nationale) and Enyimba, where he once emerged as the top scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

He won 2003, CAF Champions League with Enyimba, 2004 CAF Super Cup Winner- 2011, FA Cup winner- 2003/2004, Premier league best player, best player, MVP, and highest goal scorer.
