Finidi acknowledged the lapses but insisted those lessons have now strengthened the team.

“We are quite happy to be here and our focus now is on tomorrow’s game,” Finidi said.

“We know the few mistakes we made in Cairo and we paid for them. I don’t think that will happen tomorrow. We have all the support, and we will put in the right intensity and focus to ensure we get the maximum three points.”

The former Super Eagles winger emphasized that the team will push for victory, not merely a cautious approach.

“We are not looking to play for a draw,” he added. “Football is unpredictable, but we are positive we will carry the day.”

“Tactically, we’ll speak with the players on what needs to be done. A match of this magnitude requires 90 minutes of concentration, and we have learned our lessons.”

Team captain Temple Emekayi also stressed the importance of fan support, noting that Rivers United feel at home in Uyo, where they have recorded positive results in previous outings.

“Playing this match at home in Port Harcourt would have motivate us more motivates us,” Emekayi said.

“Nonetheless, the Uyo fans have been supporting us as Nigeria’s only representative on the continent. It’s not our first time playing here and we’ve always gotten results. Tomorrow won’t be an exception.”

Rivers United will be aiming to bounce back strongly as they look to register their first win of the group stage and boost their chances of progressing to the knockout rounds.

The match kicks off on Friday evening in Uyo by 5 pm.
