The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in the prize money for its flagship club competitions, the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, starting from the 2025/26 season.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe confirmed that the winners of both tournaments will receive an additional $2 million each.
With the new adjustment, the winner of the CAF Champions League will now earn $6 million, representing a 50 percent increase from the previous $4 million prize.
Meanwhile, the champions of the CAF Confederation Cup will receive $4 million, which is a 100 percent increase from the previous $2 million prize.
Motsepe noted that the increment forms part of CAF’s broader commitment to strengthening African club football and making the continent’s competitions more competitive globally.
Since Motsepe assumed office as CAF president in 2021, the prize money for the CAF Champions League winners has risen from $2.5 million to $6 million, representing a 140 percent increase.
Within the same period, the prize money for the Confederation Cup winners has grown from $1.25 million to $4 million, marking a 220 percent increase.
CAF also revealed that the total prize money and solidarity payments to clubs across its inter-club competitions will now exceed $42 million per season, compared to $18.8 million allocated in 2021.
As part of measures to provide greater financial support to participating teams, CAF had earlier introduced solidarity payments for clubs eliminated in the preliminary rounds of both competitions.
Initially set at $50,000 per club in the 2024/25 season, the amount has now been increased to $100,000 for the 2025/26 campaign.
The governing body stated that the enhanced financial incentives have contributed to increased participation, with a record 130 clubs from across Africa taking part in the current season of the two competitions.
Meanwhile, the two-legged final of the CAF Champions League is scheduled for May 15 and May 24, 2026, while the CAF Confederation Cup final will be played between May 9 and May 16, 2026.
