Senegal and Ghana emerged as champions of the 2026 CAF African Schools Football Championship in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively, capping off an exciting tournament in Harare, Zimbabwe.
In the boys’ final played on April 10 at the Ngoni Stadium, Senegal defeated Uganda 5–4 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time.
The tightly contested encounter saw both sides create chances, but neither could find the breakthrough before the “Teranga Cubs” held their nerve in the shootout to secure the continental title.
In the girls’ category,
Ghana successfully defended their crown after edging Burkina Faso 9–8 on penalties following another 0–0 draw in regulation time.
The “Black Damsels” showed remarkable composure to retain their title in dramatic fashion.
As champions, both Senegal and Ghana received $300,000 each in prize money, while runners-up Uganda and Burkina Faso earned $200,000 apiece.
The prize funds, sponsored by the Motsepe Foundation, are designated for development projects within the participating schools.
The 2026 edition, the fourth of the competition, was held from April 6 to 10 in Harare and brought together some of the continent’s brightest young talents.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship continues to play a vital role in grassroots football development, combining education and sport while impacting millions of young players across Africa.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the main competition after they got knocked out in the CAF/WAFU Zone B zonal qualifiers.
