The ancient city of Abeokuta is brimming with excitement as the 3rd edition of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U18/U20 African Championships gets set to commence.
With just a day to go, the number of participating countries has climbed to 35, out of a total of 42 expected nations, setting the stage for an electrifying continental showdown.

The latest delegations to arrive—Algeria and Morocco—touched down on Monday night, joining a star-studded mix of nations including South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Ghana, Egypt, and host Nigeria.
The championship, scheduled to take place from July 16 to 20, 2025, at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, will feature over 650 athletes competing across 44 events in the U18 and U20 categories.
Nigeria, as host, has been lauded for its level of preparedness, with security, accommodation, transport, and protocol arrangements fully in place to ensure a seamless experience for athletes, coaches, and officials.
Beyond the track, the city of Abeokuta is expected to be alive with cultural festivities and increased social life as it was the during last National Sports Festival.
With final preparations complete and energy levels rising, the championship promises to deliver a thrilling showcase of emerging athletic talent from across Africa.
