Bukayo Saka Misses Record Of Youngest Nigerian

Arsenal attacker, Bukayo Saka is still relishing his senior debut in the English Premier League, but does not have the double satisfaction of being the youngest Nigerian to achieve the feat.

Sports247.ng can report that Saka would have become the youngest lad to step out in the EPL had he played in last Saturday’s 5-1 loss away to Liverpool, but staying 90 minutes on the bench at Anfield left the mark with Swansea City youngster, Joel Joshghene Asoro.

Rather than Saka taking over the record, Asoro remains the youngest Nigerian-born player ever to play in the English Premier League.

Asoro was 17 years, 3 months and 25 days when he made his English Premier League, but Saka lost a last chance on Saturday to set a new record of just 24 hours short on the ex-Sunderland kid’s mark.

Three days after missing the mark, Saka was finally handed his EPL debut by Arsenal manager, Unai Emery on Tuesday when he replaced Alex Iwobi in the 83rd minute against Fulham.

However, Saka still became the youngest player still eligible to play for the Super Eagles that was born in the current millennium to get a debut in the English top-flight, aged 17 years, 3 months and 27 days.

Saka, though, twice played for Arsenal’s main team, against Vorskla and Qarabag in the Europa League in November and December respectively, before his first EPL match against The Cottagers.
