“After much thought and consideration, with mixed emotions, I’ve decided to retire from professional football,” Ideye wrote.
He expressed gratitude to God, his family, friends, and all who supported him throughout his career, adding:
“This game made me and gave me everything incredible joy, sad days, the opportunity to travel and see the world, lifelong friendships, and so many unforgettable memories.”
The former Dynamo Kyiv and West Bromwich Albion forward also thanked agents, coaches, teammates, journalists, fans, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for their role in his journey.
“Thank you, Nigeria, for the opportunity you gave me to wear the national colours and be among the Super Eagles,” he added.
Ideye earned over 30 caps for Nigeria, scoring crucial goals and playing an important role in the Super Eagles’ 2013 AFCON triumph.
At club level, he featured for teams in Switzerland, France, Ukraine, England, Greece, China, Spain, and Turkey, where he built a reputation as a strong and reliable striker known for his finishing ability.
Although stepping away from the professional stage, Ideye revealed that football will remain part of his future.
“Though my time as a pro player has come to an end, football will always be a part of my life as I enter my next chapter. Thank you all for being a part of this journey, and I look forward to still seeing you on these football streets,” he said.
