Brøndby Explain Why They Signed Emmanuel Dennis as Nigerian Forward Reacts to Career Fresh Start

Danish Superliga club Brøndby IF have opened up on the qualities that convinced them to sign Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis, with the former Super Eagles attacker expressing his excitement at securing a fresh start after a difficult period in his career.

Brøndby recently confirmed the signing of the 28-year-old on a contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028.

Dennis is expected to briefly return to England to finalise his residence and work permit before officially joining up with his new teammates in Denmark.

The Danish side acted swiftly after Dennis impressed during a week-long trial at the club’s training camp. His pace, physical strength and experience at the highest level reportedly convinced Brøndby’s sporting department that he could significantly boost their attacking options.

Once the paperwork is completed — a process expected to run into February — Dennis will return to Denmark to begin full integration with the squad, where he will wear the number 17 shirt.

Explaining the decision to sign the Nigerian, Brøndby football director Benjamin Schmedes said the club saw qualities rarely found in the Danish Superliga.

“Emmanuel has shown us over the past week that he has skills that can give us more offensive options, qualities you don’t necessarily see every day in the Superliga,” Schmedes said.

“He has speed and power, he is a threat in front of goal, and he brings valuable experience from a high international level. Just as importantly, he has made it clear that he wants to be at Brøndby and is ready to put in the work needed to succeed here.”

Dennis, who has earned eight caps for Nigeria, has been without a club since leaving Nottingham Forest last summer and last played competitive football during a short loan spell at Blackburn Rovers in May.

The former Watford forward said Brøndby’s atmosphere and the warm reception he received during his trial played a major role in his decision.

“I am very happy to have signed with the club,” Dennis said. “I’ve seen videos of the fans and they have so much energy — just like me. I really appreciate the opportunity the club has given me, and I’m excited to get started.

Hopefully, we can achieve great things together.

“The first week with the boys was fantastic. We found chemistry very quickly, and they welcomed me so warmly that it felt like we had known each other for years. I felt the love immediately, and that made the move even more attractive.”

Dennis’ switch to Denmark represents a career reset after a turbulent year. Once a €13 million signing for Nottingham Forest and one of the Premier League’s better-paid forwards, he previously scored 12 goals during his time at Watford.

After a proposed move to Romanian side CFR Cluj collapsed in September due to a wage dispute, Dennis has now embraced the chance to rebuild his career at Brøndby, who believe they have secured a proven attacker hungry to rediscover his best form.
