British Nigerian Boxers Okolie, Adeleye to Headline Historic Boxing Night in Lagos

British heavyweight Lawrence Okolie will headline a historic boxing card in Lagos, Nigeria, on December 19, marking his first-ever professional bout on African soil.

The 32-year-old former cruiserweight and bridgerweight world champion will feature on the Queensberry Promotions event co-promoted by Frank Warren and Amir Khan, though his opponent is yet to be confirmed.

Okolie, whose parents were born in Nigeria, described the fight night as a dream come true.

“Big-time boxing comes to Lagos! This will be a historic moment for Africa, my family, and my career,” said Okolie, who boasts a record of 22 wins (16 KOs) and one loss.

“There’s been a lot of talk, but let’s see who really wants to dance. Thanks to Frank, George, and Queensberry for making this happen.”

The Lagos show will be part of a growing push to bring elite boxing to Africa.

It comes just a day before Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom hosts another event in Ghana, amid reports that Anthony Joshua could also return to fight in Africa early next year.

Amir Khan, head of AK Promotions, promised an unforgettable night for Nigerian fans.

“Lagos is about to witness something special,” Khan said. “This event brings together explosive heavyweights and Nigeria’s rising stars. I’m proud to be part of a night that will inspire the next generation of African fighters.”

British heavyweight contender David Adeleye, who also has Nigerian roots, is confirmed to appear on the undercard.

The event is expected to attract global attention as Nigeria positions itself as one of boxing’s fastest-growing markets in Africa.
