Unruly conduct from boxing fans in Lagos, who wanted to enter the fight arena without paying for tickets, left British boxer, Joe Laws boycotting a fight organised by Balmoral Promotions and boxing legend, Amir Khan.

Sports247 reports that, though the night’s main attraction, a celebrity bout between popular musician, Portable and internet blogger, Carter Efe, eventually took place, while other bouts also held later on, Laws refused to fight, citing insecurity.
Ironically, Laws had earlier been in the news with allegations that he travelled from England to Nigeria without his boxing gloves and no trainer to man his corner, which already put him in doubt for his fight with Elvis Ahorga of Ghana.
However, in a dramatic twist of events, Laws pulled out of his fight, with an allegation that he had been caught in a tear gas attack by security men trying to stabilize an unruly crowd at the arena on Lagos Island.
A report by UK’s Sun Sports revealed, “Laws – who was warming up at the time – was caught up in the situation and was effected by the gas. He reportedly ripped his wraps off and stormed out of the venue – refusing to fight after the troubling scenes.
“DAZN cameras caught the moment the referee in the ring officiating the fight at the time had to call off the bout. Basit Adebayo was facing Loren Japhet at the time when the two fighters and ref broke out into coughs before it was eventually halted.”
A commentator said: “It does look like we’re going to have to take a break for people to get themselves back;” and another added: “So we’ve had confirmation that apparently there is some tear gas in the air.”
Sports247 reports further that the night of fight, dubbed ‘Chaos In The Ring,’ eventually resumed after security men evacuated the premises and removed all the fans who were without tickets, but Laws refused to enter the roped square for his bout.
