‘Bring Him Back’ — Shepherd Amaraegbu Backs Eric Chelle Amid Super Eagles Contract Drama

Shepherd Amaraegbu, manager of Giosheph Football Club in Lagos, has thrown his full weight behind Éric Sékou Chelle, urging the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to reappoint the Super Eagles head coach if they are serious about long-term progress.

Speaking exclusively to Sports247Naija during the Island All Stars International Sports Club Super Cup at Lagos Business School, Amaraegbu declared himself “120 percent” in support of Chelle’s return.

“The little time Chelle stayed with the Super Eagles, he has done extremely well and deserves another contract,” he said. “He had nothing to do with our World Cup qualifiers tragedy. The damage was done before his arrival. In all ramifications, Eric Chelle is a good coach.”

Amaraegbu insisted stability is key to restoring Nigeria’s dominance in global football.

“When he is consistent with the players — before the World Cup or even a year after — Nigeria will be back at the top of world football,” he added.

He also called on the NFF to provide full institutional backing, stressing that the current generation of Super Eagles players — many competing at top European clubs — require structure and continuity to thrive.

“NFF needs to support him and give him everything needed to move the nation forward.”

With Nigeria set to participate in a proposed four-nation tournament involving Iran and Jordan, Amaraegbu urged focus on rebuilding rather than dwelling on World Cup playoff petitions.

“Forget the FIFA World Cup playoff. Let’s focus on building. The problem in Nigeria is wanting results without hard work. Showing our class in the four-nation tournament is the next project.”
