Brighton Currently Considering Potential Move For Super Eagles Defender

Brighton are currently in negotiations with Chelsea over the permanent signing of Levi
Colwill, but the Blues are reportedly demanding a substantial transfer fee for the talented
defender.

In the meantime, Brighton is also considering alternative options and has set their sights on Calvin Bassey, a Super Eagles defender, as a potential replacement for Colwill.

Bassey, who joined Ajax last summer, has struggled to find his footing at the club. Ajax underwent a transitional period, losing key personnel such as coach Erik Ten Hag and defender Lisandro Martinez, which further complicated Bassey’s integration into the team.
Unfortunately, Bassey has faced criticism from former Ajax players throughout the season, with many questioning the club’s decision to acquire him. His playing time has been limited, with him starting only one of Ajax’s final ten games of the season, while 17-year-old Jorrel Hato was favored over him.

With the uncertainty surrounding Bassey’s future at Ajax, Brighton sees an opportunity to
secure his services. If they fail to reach an agreement with Chelsea for Colwill, Brighton is
prepared to make a move for Bassey. Ajax is likely to demand a more reasonable fee,
potentially around €20 million, making him a more affordable option for the Premier League club.

Should the transfer materialize, it would mark Bassey’s return to English football, having
begun his career at the Leicester City academy before joining Rangers three seasons ago.
