Breaking: Plans Underway To Restart Sunday Dare National Athletic Tourney in Lagos

As sport activities are yet to commence in Nigeria due to pandemic disease, covid-19, organisers of the ongoing U-13 and U-15 Sunday Dare National Athletic Championship said early preparation had started to restart the tourney immediately government has eased the lockdown.

The championship which was named after sports Minister, Sunday Dare commenced last September at Alade Sport Stadium,Ipaja Command,Lagos.
More than fourty secondary schools in Lagos took part in the track and field events including 100M,200M,400M and 4 by 100M relay.

Some schools that took part in the tourney are Honeyland school, Homeland School,African church primary school and host of others.

Speaking to our correspondent early today, chairman organising committee,Otunba Samuel Adeleye popularly known as Alex Billy said the championship has reached the quarter final stage saying that the purpose of the tourney is to discover young talents for the country ahead future continental and intercontinental championships.

“We have started the tournament before the covid-19 and we want to restart the championship immediately the government has eased the lockdown on sports activities, presently we have started preparation so that once the lockdown is over,we will continue where we stopped,”he said.

Adeleye revealed that the championship is powered by Alade Sports Grassroots Academy saying that he wants sport ministry or private athletic clubs in various states to send their best athletes to take part in the championship.

“We want more states to take part in the quarter final stage.We have finished preliminary stage in Lagos and we want more athletes from other states to take part in the quarter final stage so that we can discover best athletes that would represent the country in future international championships,”he said.

In his own remark,Prince Tunde Alade who is also a member of Organising Committee said they have discovered good athletes during the preliminary stage and noted that the championship is open to any interested state to send their representatives for participation.
