BREAKING: Organisers Release List of Banned Athletes Ahead of National Sports Festival – Majority from One State

As preparations for the 22nd National Sports Festival intensify, the organisers have taken a bold and commendable step by releasing a list of athletes who are banned from participating due to unresolved doping issues.

In a move aimed at upholding the credibility of the competition, officials have directed all state teams to decamp any athlete currently under a drug-related ban.

It was revealed that some of these athletes had already joined their teams in closed camp, potentially putting their states at risk of technical disqualification if discovered during the games.

While names have been circulated internally for enforcement, it is noteworthy that a majority of the banned athletes belong to a particular state delegation.

This has raised concerns about the internal screening processes within some states, as well as the pressure to field ineligible athletes despite standing bans.

An official from the organising committee stated:
“We are determined to keep this festival clean and drug-free. Any athlete serving a doping ban has no business around the competition venue. Rules are rules, and this will be strictly enforced.”

The list, which includes athletes from disciplines like kickboxing and para powerlifting, has already prompted swift action from team administrators.

Affected coaches and secretaries have been instructed to immediately decamp the individuals involved to avoid complications.

The organisers’ proactive approach is being applauded by many stakeholders as an indication that the Abeokuta 2025 edition of the National Sports Festival will set a new benchmark in fairness, transparency, and zero tolerance for doping.

With this firm stance, the games are on track to be remembered not only for sporting excellence but also for their commitment to clean competition.
