The seasoned tactician, who once donned the club’s jersey as a player, reflected on the journey that saw him guide the team back to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) and clinch the prestigious President Federation Cup (FA Cup).
“From representing this club as a player to promoting it to the elite league as a coach, winning the President Federation Cup, and sustaining its NPFL status, it’s truly been an honor to represent this esteemed badge of Borno State,” Zubairu stated.
Coach Zubairu also extended heartfelt gratitude to the Borno State Government, particularly Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, Honourable Saina Buba, the Commissioner for Sports, and Alhaji Babagana Kalli, Chairman of the Borno State Football Association, for their continuous support throughout his tenure.
While confirming that he will not renew his expiring contract, Zubairu emphasized that his decision is rooted in a desire to explore new professional opportunities, having fulfilled his mission at the club.
“I’ve decided not to renew my contract, this decision stems from my confidence that I’ve made a meaningful contribution to the club’s growth and development,” he said. “Borno will always remain a home to me and dear to my heart.”
Now serving as Head Coach of the Flying Eagles of Nigeria, Zubairu departs Elkanemi Warriors with a legacy of discipline, development, and success, leaving behind a team he helped return to national prominence.
